Dealing with Underperformers

A 30-minute deep dive to shift your approach and your results when leading someone who isn’t performing at the level you need.

Underperformance is an issue for everyone: for you, for the team, for the underperformer themselves – we’re not here to argue about that. How you address performance effectively is another conversation though. And in my experience performance reviews are not how you fix it.

I’ve seen so many cases of underperformance in my career, and I have helped so many leaders navigate them. They can be a huge source of stress, but when you have a framework that guides you through dealing with them, they can also be…an opportunity.

Over 30 focused minutes, I will share with you exactly what I shared with my mastermind group to help them address underperformance in their team in practical, low stress ways.

1. We’ll first identify what underperforming can look like in your team
2. We’ll then reframe and deepen your understanding beyond the tip of the underperformance iceberg
3. And then move onto some very practical approaches you can implement immediately.

All this in just half an hour, so by the end of the deep dive you can shift how you lead underperformers and the results you get.

Hi there, I’m Juliet Robinson and over the past 25 years, I’ve been helping leaders and teams perform at their best.

I know first hand how one underperformer we don’t deal with can impact the entire team and culture. I delivered this deep dive to my leadership mastermind, and the advice inside it is still what I share with my clients all the time – it works! And I want to share it with you, so you have the tools and the understanding to make this, let's be honest, often dreaded task, much more stress free and effective.

Working hard and underperforming can happen at the same time...

This is just one of the things which can make it difficult to manage underperformers. This session will help you understand WHY and HOW underperformance happens, so you can help your team members be their best.

Like most things managed well, dealing with underperformers can have a positive flow-on effect on other aspects of your work by:

✔️ Improving team culture
✔️ Building your self-confidence as a leader
✔️ Establishing better working relationships with the person you manage through underperformance, and your other team members
✔️ Strengthening your leadership skills, because that’s what leading through underperformance helps you do.

Sometimes that's true. But often we assume it. The deep dive will help you identify what's happening under the surface so you can respond appropriately.

Yes. Many leaders have conversations, but they're often vague, emotional or focused on the wrong problem. You'll learn how to structure conversations that create clarity, accountability and a genuine opportunity for improvement.

Then this is especially for you. This is about learning how to have clear, respectful conversations that protect both the relationship and the standards you're responsible for.

No. This session focuses mostly on the everyday leadership conversations that happen before formal performance management becomes necessary.

That's something many leaders try to avoid. Inside the Deep Dive, you'll learn practical ways to respond without backing away from the conversation or escalating it.

Shift how you manage underperformance, so it causes (you and them team) less stress, and the outcome is much more effective
